Opportunities

The Foundation and its schools have many ongoing challenges, and are always looking for support. Donors are encouraged to adopt a project, and if in the area, become involved from more than just a financial perspective. Where a donor funds a major project in full, the donor will be entitled to naming rights for the item/facility.

  • The Teachers’ Fund: Our schools have very poor teacher/pupil ratios, but do not have the ability to create governing body posts to improve the situation. The DSF has established a capital fund whose income will be used exclusively to appoint additional teachers. Through a partnership with Contract Accountants, who volunteered to undertake the administration of our appointments, the DSF is in a position to provide much needed additional resources to the schools. Donors may donate into the capital account, or sponsor a specific school or teacher.
  • Infrastructure: All the schools require funds for upgrading infrastructure. Individual requests range from insulating a room to become a library, bookshelves at many of the schools, small tables and chairs for a  kindergarten class, and storage cupboards. In this regard, we ask donors to contact us first, and we will provide a list of items must urgently needed from which a donor can select. Otherwise, a donation marked ”infrastructure” will be used for that purpose and allocated by the trustees.
  • Sports facilities: As one can imagine, sports facilities are generally low on the list of priorities, but play such a large role in developing children. It is our dream to provide 5 schools with proper netball facilities, including building the court, by the end of 2010. We estimate that each will cost in the region of R30,000 in total. Donors may contribute in multiples of R3,000 to this initiative.
