About Us
The Durbanville Schools Foundation was formed with the aim of encouraging high quality education in the Durbanville district and surrounding rural areas. Low levels of education, poor school facilities and a lack of skills in school management led the parents of 9 Durbanville farm schools to approach the local business community to assist them in resolving these problems, resulting in the establishment of the Foundation.
Established in 1997, the Durbanville Schools Foundation has faced the challenges head-on with limited resources. The Foundation focuses on those areas where the need is the greatest.
The allocation of scarce resources and the prioritisation of certain fundamental requirements has led to the Foundation’s focus being confined to the primary school level. Some support though, is given to High School education for former Foundation pupils.
The number of schools supported has grown from 9 to 12 since 1997.
The schools include:
Alpha Primary, Attie van Wyk Primary, Blue Mountains Primary, Bottelary Primary, Joostenberg Primary, Kersboslaagte Primary, Klipheuwel Primary, Meulenhof Primary, Philadelphia Primary, Trevor Manuel Primary, The Valley Primary, Vissershok Primary
At inception, the Foundation sought support from businesses, encouraging them to adopt a school.
In addition, the former model C schools were encouraged to transfer their school management skills to the underresourced schools. Notwithstanding the great strides made, the backlog of facilities required by the farm schools remains huge and is much more than the Foundation could handle on this basis.
